Just over a year ago Advanced added e-learning platform bksb and ed tech Smart Apprentices to its education portfolio. With 2,700 employees, the group generates annual turnover of around £330 million, according to its website.

Vista Equity Partners took Advanced private in March 2015, in a deal that valued the company at £750 million. Shareholders received 140 pence per share equating to an equity value of approximately £725 million.

Subsequently, private equity firm BC Partners invested in the business in August 2019, acquiring a stake of around 50% for approximately £2 billion, according to press reports. Vista retained a stake in the business and continued to support its growth alongside BC Partners.
