US: Ukrainian-founded Preply raises $50m in Series C


Online language learning platform Preply has secured $50 million in a Series C funding round led by Owl Ventures.

The round saw participation from previous investors Diligent Capital, Hoxton Ventures, Educapital, Evli Growth Partners, and Przemyslaw Gacek, the co-founder of Grupa Pracuj. New investors including Swisscom Ventures and Orbit Capital also took part.

Preply has raised more than $100 million in investments since its inception.  The company was founded in 2012 in Ukraine and is now headquartered in Brighton, Massachusetts,

The Preply marketplace pairs learners with more than 32,000 tutors teaching 50 languages. The company has around 400 employees comprising 58 different nationalities in 30 countries.

Kirill Bigai, co-founder and chief executive of Preply, said: “With the additional funding, we plan to continue growing our footprint in the US and Europe by doubling down on AI-based matching and delivering on our promise to connect the largest live language learning community in the world.”
