US: Riverside’s Clinical Education Alliance buys Rockpointe

Clinical Education Alliance (CEA), a portfolio company of private equity firm The Riverside Company, has acquired healthcare education business Rockpointe Corporation.

Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Columbia, Maryland, Rockpointe provides accredited continuing medical education (CE) programmes to around 100 state medical and specialty societies and a network comprising 200 hospitals and health systems. The company’s multi-channel offerings include regional events, online education and webinars across high-science therapeutic areas including oncology, immunology, infectious diseases and cardiology.

Reston, Virginia-based CEA stated that the acquisition supports its focus on high-science therapeutic areas while allowing it to expand into primary care education.

Madison Park Group served as the exclusive financial advisor to Rockpointe on this transaction.

This is the second add-on inked by CEA, following its July 2021 purchase of MDOutlook, a provider of precision intelligence solutions to help life sciences companies develop and commercialise therapeutics and diagnostics in oncology.

CEA also includes Clinical Care Options, which focuses on educational activities for healthcare professionals across multiple therapeutic areas; Practicing Clinicians Exchange, which is dedicated to delivering multichannel education for nurse practitioners and physician assistants; ProCE, a provider of certified education for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians; and Clinical Care Solutions, a learning platform for healthcare professionals.

Riverside acquired a majority stake in CEA from Renovus Capital Partners in December 2020. The deal saw private debt specialist Antares provide senior secured credit facilities and Renovus retain a minority holding in the business.
