Macquarie Group has sold the concession for Mexico-based polytechnic university Universidad Politécnica de San Luis Potosí to Spanish asset manager Bestinver.

Bestinver has bought the asset through its infrastructure fund Bestinver Infra, an investment vehicle launched in 2020 with a €300 million target, which held a €100 million first close in March 2021 and is understood to have raised around €200 million so far.

The sale ends a ten-year holding period for Macquarie, which acquired the business via its Macquarie Mexico Infrastructure Fund for 619 million Mexican pesos ($ 46.6m) from Spain-based construction firm Acciona, which is the holding company of Bestinver.

Macquarie said in a statement that this sale represents less than 5% of the assets owned by its Macquarie Mexico Infrastructure Fund.

Built in 2008 by Acciona, the Polytechnic University of San Luis Potosí was the first campus designed as a public-private partnership in Latin America. The university comprises four buildings and currently counts more than 5,000 students.
